farm house renovation in surrey
Client Brief The property was originally a derelict farmhouse with a barn attached. The client wanted a substantial country house feel combined with the familiarity and comfort of large farm house. The client possessed many items of furniture which were original antique heirlooms. The overall style and design was to compliment these exquisite antiques. Each of the five bathrooms was to be completely different. Brief Specification Xu Red started work off plan as the site had only just had the footings put in and apart from a few dilapidated timbers nothing else could be seen. All materials used were reclaimed because we wanted to use expose brick work walls with detailed floor lighting to compliment the textures. Overhead lighting was designed in detail to be secured to the large oak beams at a great height. A minstral gallery was designed to overlook the spacious drawing room. All fireplaces were sourced by Xu Red from a French farmhouse and restored. A secret door was designed in an oak panelled bookcase to lead from the drawing room to the dining room. Each bathroom was designed differently as requested some modern and some more traditional. Original cream flagstones were laid in the main hall with under floor heating. A main oak staircase was designed to lead to the first floor and minstral gallery. Xu Red used Molteni & C wardrobes in all bedrooms including a giant walk in wardrobe in the master bedroom.
